Operational Concepts - Some considerations for smaller craft

Traditional liveaboard vessels operate at relatively low speeds (10-14 knots) because distances to operational areas are short or there are sites along the way that are visited and/or the passage occurs at night.

It is possible to utilise high-speed vessels to travel to sites by operating at 20-30 knots. This allows day excursions incorporating two to three dives in the day. This concept is widely used in Australia in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Operators have established bases in the main ports and transport divers to and from reefs within a 30 nm range on the same day. Guests dive from the vessel, floating hotel or pontoons moored at the dive sites.

dbb have access to these types of high-speed craft capable of carrying a wide variety of passengers through our ferry contacts. Please ask us about this concept as it can provide an extra dimension to a dive operation and requires no overnight dive boat accommodation facilities on the vessel.
